Pastor Dan Schaeffer

Hi!  I’ve been the pastor here at Shoreline for about 1,865 days and counting.  I was a pastor in Southern California for a good deal longer than that, starting a church, having three children (my wife Annette helped with that by the way), growing a church, raising rabbits, learning how to BBQ and writing various books, articles, and study guides.  I’m a devoted fan of J.R. Tolkien, CS Lewis, J.K. Rowling, USC Trojan football, my wife Annette, flannel sheets and my home made tacos.  I once built a 3--bunny hutch with a picture out of a book, some wood, a brand new electric drill and approximately 3,412 screws!  My greatest passion, however, is following Jesus with all I am, serving Him, telling others about Hm, and wondering how I got so lucky that I got to do this for a living. Youth and College Pastor Jon Harris

My name is Jon Harris. Some friends call me J-Har. I am the Youth and College Pastor. I got my degree in Biblical Studies, with an emphasis in Youth Ministry. It took me 7 years but hey, at least I got it. I picked the worst location to be a pastor. It is really difficult to be living in the environment of Santa Barbara. The scenery is terrible, the beaches are dirty and the weather is cold. But on a serious note, I love Youth and College Students. I love my nieces, nephews and family, as you can see in the picture. I love to play sports and go to the beach. My passion in life is to help people find their way back to God and to be there for people when they are in tough times. It is a blessing being part of God’s plan in furthering His Kingdom. The people at Shoreline are really Awesome! They are caring, warm-hearted and are very friendly. Come and visit us soon.

I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, Ca. Both of my parents became Christians a few years before I was born, so church was very familiar to me growing up. I’ve always heard many things about God and the Bible and I remember that there were times where I really wanted to live for God and then there were times when I wanted to live for myself. I knew about Jesus and what He did for me but that reality never changed my life. I never really knew how bad I was and that I had developed a self-righteousness that God hated. I started going further down the wrong path through most of my teen years. I hung out with the wrong people and was easily influenced by them and for years I lived a double life. At home and at church I was one person, but when I hung out with my friends I was another. The church I grew up in split up when I was in High School. It came to the surface there were some shady things being done by some of the top leaders in the church. Many people were mad and bitter, while others found other churches. It was a bummer to see so many people turn on God because of these leaders. Around that time, God began to bring people in my life who reached out to me and showed me His love. God brought me to a point where I wanted what these people had. I began to talk to God and learn more of His Word. I think the greatest truth that drew me back to God was realizing that when I was furthest away from Him, thats when He loved me. That it wasn’t when I was doing good He loved me, but it was when I was a mess. Understanding the unconditional love that God had for me is what led me back to Him.

I could describe myself several ways: family man, church man, outdoorsman and craftsman! My career and much of my life has been spent serving Christ and His Church, bot as a leader and trainer of leaders. I am a retired College Professor who trained Church leaders for 29 years. My wife and I have 3 children and 8 grandchildren who we have tried to introduce to God and His creation.
In retirement I have hiked to the top of Half Dome, almost tot the top of Mt. Whitney, built several home additions and remodeled two of my family members homes as well. I love the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and making things with my hands, such as: houses, furniture, cabinets, etc. But I don’t like yard work or painting! We would love to have you come and visit the church. We would love to meet you.

I was blessed to grow up in Santa Barbara and drove by this lovely church for years thinking it was some stuffy estate. After coming to the Lord and a few years of knocking around I have come to know and be blessed by the loving church family of Shoreline. Stuffy? Absolutely NOT! Full of love? YES! As one of the elders, I am privileged to serve the congregation and desire that each of us use our gifts in service to our Lord. I invite you to seek your gifts and find how rewarding it can be! I earnestly seek the Lord’s guidance and welcome all inputs from each of us to help the congregation meet Shoreline’s goal of developing fully devoted followers of Christ. Please join us for the investment in your life - The close relationship with our Lord Jesus!

Children's Ministries Director Diane Martinez

As Children's Ministry director at Shoreline I am fortunate enough to do what I love most, work with children.  I am absolutely sure this is why I was attracted to and married my husband Craig, the biggest kid I know!  I also have two amazing sons and daughter-in-laws who have blessed me with three grandchildren.   I work for Santa Barbara City College in the Early Childhood lab school as a teacher.  You have probably realized that my life is filled with children!  However, I also enjoy reading, taking long walks, watching movies that are not scary, and exercising – yes exercising!
